Mohammed Alfa, CEO of Stronghold Entertainment and Tope Esan, Stats Media have joined forces to prepare for the maiden edition of the African Global DJ Awards. African Global DJ Awards (AGDA) ceremony which is an avenue to celebrate DJ’s all across Africa is set to hold on the 4th of May, 2013 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Tope Esan announced at a media briefing in Lagos last week that the preparations for the upcoming awards has been on for over two years, and it is set to give recognition to outstanding DJs who have helped to make the continent’s music scene thick.
The organizers have pulled together a full working force to see to the success of this event such as Cool FM / Wazobia FM to be her official radio media partner and Soundcity as her official tv partner. Navio , a Ugandian rapper , Adams Ibrahim of Soundcity, Denrele of Channel O and a few others are listed to be part of the hosts and presenters of the event.
The event sets to cut across all regions of Africa harmonizing music lovers and DJ’s of major and minor heights. 13 Categories are listed out for this year’s awards which are Best African DJ, Best DJ Mix Tape, Best Club DJ, Best Radio DJ, Best TV DJ, Best Artiste Band DJ, Best African International DJ, Best Global DJ, Best Techo/House DJ, Best Afro-Hip Hop, Best Gospel DJ, Best Reggae DJ.
The winners will be decided by a panel of judges selected from different countries and likely to be headed by Nigeria’s legendary DJ Jimmy Jatt.. Nominations for the awards begin on the 4th of March, 2013 majorly through sms voting.
